Abstract

ABSTRAK Tujuan dari penelitian ini ialah: 1) menjelaskan unsur struktural dalam novel Stamboel Cinta dari Bali karya Nurinwa Ki S. Hendrowinoto dengan teori struktural fakta cerita Robert Stanton dan, 2) mengidentifikasi adanya resistansi tokoh utama terhadap budaya pernikahan Bali dalam novel. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian ini merupakan kajian antropologi sastra dengan menggunakan teori fakta cerita Robert Stanton dan teori resistansi James C. Scott. Hasil penelitian dari resistansi tokoh utama yakni Raden Soekeni Sosrodihardjo dan Ida Ayu Nyoman Rai pada budaya pernikahan Bali adalah terdapat tiga motif resistansi, tiga bentuk resistansi terbuka dan tiga bentuk resistansi tertutup. Motif resistansi merupakan penentangan pada budaya tradisional pernikahan Bali yang terdiri dari menolak perjodohan, menolak calon pasangan pilihan orang tua dan menentang pernikahan endogami di Bali. Bentuk resistansi tertutup antara lain penolakan perjodohan oleh Nyoman Rai, menolak calon jodoh tanpa diketahui oleh orang tua dari Nyoman Rai, serta menunjukkan ketertarikan Raden Soekeni Sosrodihardjo kepada Nyoman Rai melalui surat. Bentuk resistansi terbuka antara lain menolak perjodohan yang ditujukan langsung kepada orang tua Raden Soekeni Sosrodihardjo, memilih calon pasangan perempuan Bali meski ada larangan menikah dengan orang jaba, serta melakukan ngerorod atau kawin lari oleh kedua tokoh utama. Bentuk-bentuk resistansi yang dilakukan oleh tokoh utama tersebut merupakan hasil pengaruh budaya modern Belanda yang menentang segregasi kasta dan golongan dalam pernikahan. Kata kunci: resistansi, tokoh utama, pernikahan Bali, antropologi sastra. ***** ABSTRACT The objectives of this study are: 1) to explain the structural elements in the novel Stamboel Cinta dari Bali by Nurinwa Ki S. Hendrowinoto with Robert Stanton's structural theory of story facts and, 2) to identify the main character's resistance to Balinese marriage culture in the novel. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. This research is a literary anthropology study using Robert Stanton's story fact theory and James C. Scott's resistance theory. Scott's resistance theory. The research results of the resistance of the main characters, Raden Soekeni Sosrodihardjo and Ida Ayu Nyoman Rai, to the Balinese marriage culture are three motives of resistance, three forms of open resistance and three forms of closed resistance. The resistance motif is an opposition to the traditional culture of Balinese marriage which consists of rejecting arranged marriages, rejecting potential partners chosen by parents and opposing endogamous marriages in Bali. Closed forms of resistance include rejecting an arranged marriage by Nyoman Rai, rejecting a potential mate without the knowledge of Nyoman Rai's parents, and showing Raden Soekeni Sosrodihardjo's interest in Nyoman Rai through letters. Open forms of resistance include refusing an arranged marriage addressed directly to Raden Soekeni Sosrodihardjo's parents, choosing a potential Balinese female partner despite the prohibition of marrying a jaba person, and performing ngerorod or elopement by the two main characters. These forms of resistance by the main characters are the result of the influence of modern Dutch culture that opposes caste and class segregation in marriage.
