Abstract

*****ABSTRAK***** Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis representasi kecemasan realistik dan moral yang berpengaruh pada naluri kematian Charlie dalam The Whale movie. Charlie merupakan karakter utama dalam film The Whale mengalami kecemasan akibat trauma masa lalu, rasa bersalah yang mendalam, yang mendorong perilaku penghancuran diri. Metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif digunakan dalam penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan dialog Charlie yang memberikan gambaran unsur-unsur kecemasan dan tindakan pengrusakan diri dalam film The Whale. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Sigmund Freud psikoanalisis konsep kecemasan dan naluri kematian. Temuan mengungkapkan bahwa Charlie mengalami kecemasan realistik dan kecemasan moral. Selain itu, kecemasan tersebut mempengaruhi naluri kematian Charlie dalam bentuk tindakan pengrusakan diri yang berakhir dengan bunuh diri. Dari temuan tersebut, terungkap bahwa Charlie mengalami kecemasan dan didominasi naluri kematian karena trauma masa lalu yang berdampak pada kesehatannya dan rasa bersalah yang mendalam yang berujung pada bunuh diri. *****ABSTRACT***** This study aims to analyze the representation of realistic anxiety and moral anxiety that influences Charlie's death instinct in The Whale movie. Charlie, the main character in The Whale, experiences anxiety due to past trauma, a deep sense of guilt, which drives self-destructive behavior. Descriptive of the qualitative method is used in this research to describe Charlie's dialogue which provides an overview of anxiety and self-destruction behaviours in The Whale movie. This study uses Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic theory in the concept of anxiety and the death instinct. The findings revealed that Charlie experienced realistic anxiety and moral anxiety. In addition, this anxiety influences Charlie's death instinct in the form of self-destructive behaviour that leads into suicide. It is found that Charlie experienced anxiety and was dominated by the death instinct due to past trauma which had an impact on his health and deep feelings of guilt.
