Abstract
Reading comprehension is an ability that students must have. Starting from early childhood students to college students. Because this reading ability will help in gaining understanding, according to Marohaini. Where the process of understanding when reading must have three main things. As Gillet and Temple argue, these three points include knowledge, understanding the structure of the text and activities to find or search for meaning. That's why in elementary schools or early schools many educators teach reading. The ultimate goal is not just to read quickly or something like that. But from reading, you can discover new knowledge, theories and ideas. Reading comprehension ability is a receptive language learning ability, namely the ability to understand, interpret, interpret texts to develop attitudes, knowledge and skills. Problems arise if students' reading concentration is low, students' reading techniques are not appropriate, and there are minimal reading material facilities. Learning materials that are integrated with multimodal texts (oral, written, visual, audio and audio-visual) and integrated with Pancasila student values, can create language learning that is holistic and more interesting. The aim of this research is to produce learning material products based on discovery learning with multimodal texts in accordance with the genre of education in Indonesian language learning in class IV elementary schools. This research will be carried out in 2024. This research is research and development with the integration of the Dick and Carey model and the Tomlinson model. The sample was random sampling, in grade IV elementary school students in North Jakarta. Based on expert validation, both material, media and language aspects show that discovery learning-based learning materials are valid to use. At the individual-and small group evaluation stage, the student response was 81.00 in the high category. The data analysis technique is the N-Gain Score Test and Independent Sample t-Test. The results of his research showed that the results of the effectiveness test on 56 students using a pretest-posttest design showed that Indonesian language learning materials based on discovery learning were effective in building the reading comprehension skills of Class IV elementary school students. In conclusion, learning materials based on discovery learning can be used as learning materials to improve reading comprehension skills. The next research suggestion is to integrate it with other subjects or with several subjects that are appropriate to the elementary school level in the same class and semester.
