Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan strategi Active Learning tipe Point Counterpoint (PCP) terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada pembelajaran Ilmu Pengetahuan Sosial (IPS) kelas V Sekolah Dasar. Metode yang digunakan adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan desain Nonequivalent Control Group Design. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas V A sebagai kelas eksperimen dan V B sebagai kelas kontrol di SDN Karet 01 Pagi. Instrumen yang digunakan soal pretest dan posttest untuk mengukur kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata nilai posttest kelas eksperimen lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelas kontrol, dengan N-Gain sebesar 0,678 (kategori cukup efektif) untuk kelas eksperimen, dan 0,480 (kategori kurang efektif) untuk kelas kontrol. Uji Independent Sample t-Test menunjukkan nilai signifikansi (2-tailed) sebesar 0,04 < 0,05, sehingga disimpulkan terdapat pengaruh dari penggunaan strategi Point Counterpoint terhadap peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa. Observasi juga menunjukkan bahwa siswa di kelas eksperimen lebih aktif dalam berdiskusi, menyampaikan pendapat, menanggapi argumen, dan menarik kesimpulan dibandingkan dengan siswa di kelas kontrol. Strategi ini terbukti mampu menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang mendorong keterlibatan aktif dan mengembangkan kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi. Dengan demikian, strategi Active Learning tipe Point Counterpoint dapat dijadikan alternatif pembelajaran yang efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada mata pelajaran IPS. ***** This study aims to determine the effect of using the Active Learning strategy of the Point Counterpoint (PCP) type on students’ critical thinking skills in Social Studies (IPS) learning for fifth-grade elementary school students. The method used was a quasi-experimental design with the Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The research subjects were students of class V A as the experimental group and class V B as the control group at SDN Karet 01 Pagi. The instrument used was a set of pretest and posttest questions to measure students' critical thinking skills. The results showed that the average posttest score of the experimental class was higher than that of the control class, with an N-Gain of 0.678 (categorized as moderately effective) for the experimental class and 0.480 (categorized as less effective) for the control class. The Independent Sample t-Test showed a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.04 < 0.05, indicating that there was an effect of using the Point Counterpoint strategy on improving students’ critical thinking skills. Observations also revealed that students in the experimental class were more active in discussions, expressing opinions, responding to arguments, and drawing conclusions compared to those in the control class. This strategy has proven effective in creating a learning environment that fosters active engagement and enhances higher-order thinking skills. Therefore, the Active Learning strategy of the Point Counterpoint type can be considered an effective alternative for improving critical thinking skills in Social Studies subjects.
