Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi media sejak 2007 mengubah pola konsumsi media masyarakat Jakarta dan memicu persaingan antara radio, televisi, dan media digital. Di tengah dominasi media visual dan daring, radio tetap mempertahankan relevansinya sebagai media audio yang dekat dengan pendengar muda. Gen-FM Jakarta menjadi contoh radio yang mampu bertahan melalui peran penyiar dalam menjaga kedekatan dan identitas hingga 2024. Penelitian ini berfokus pada perjuangan penyiar Gen-FM Jakarta dalam mempertahankan eksistensi radio pada periode 2007–2024, yang meliputi rekonstruksi perjalanan penyiar, strategi menghadapi persaingan televisi, internet, dan platform digital, serta bentuk inovasi dan adaptasi pada masa pandemi dan pascapandemi. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan historis dengan tahapan heuristik, kritik, interpretasi, dan historiografi melalui sumber tertulis dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penyiar berperan penting dalam mempertahankan eksistensi radio melalui konsistensi format siaran, penggunaan bahasa yang dekat dengan budaya anak muda, serta pemanfaatan media sosial dan kegiatan off-air untuk menjaga kedekatan dengan pendengar. ***** consumption patterns in Jakarta and intensified competition between radio, television, and digital media. Amid the dominance of visual and online media, radio has remained relevant as an audio medium that stays close to young audiences. Gen-FM Jakarta represents a radio station that has survived through the role of its announcers in maintaining identity and audience engagement until 2024. This study focuses on the struggle of Gen-FM Jakarta announcers in maintaining the existence of radio during the period 2007–2024, including the reconstruction of their historical journey, strategies in facing competition from television, the internet, and digital platforms, as well as forms of innovation and adaptation during the pandemic and post-pandemic periods. This research applies a historical approach using the stages of heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography based on written sources and interviews. The findings show that announcers played a crucial role in sustaining radio through consistent broadcasting formats, communication styles aligned with youth culture, and the use of social media and off-air activities to maintain closeness with listeners.
