Abstract
Kemampuan membaca permulaan merupakan keterampilan dasar yang sangat penting bagi siswa kelas I Sekolah Dasar sebagai fondasi dalam mengikuti proses pembelajaran. Namun, masih ditemukan siswa yang mengalami kesulitan dalam mengenali bunyi huruf dan membaca kata sederhana. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh metode fonik terhadap kemampuan membaca permulaan pada muatan Bahasa Indonesia siswa kelas I Sekolah Dasar di Kecamatan Mustika Jaya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode True Experimental dengan desain Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. Subjek penelitian terdiri atas kelompok eksperimen yang diberikan pembelajaran menggunakan metode fonik dan kelompok kontrol yang menggunakan metode pembelajaran konvensional. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui tes lisan membaca permulaan, sedangkan analisis data menggunakan uji statistik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh signifikan penggunaan metode fonik terhadap peningkatan kemampuan membaca permulaan siswa. Dengan demikian, metode fonik efektif digunakan dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca permulaan siswa kelas I Sekolah Dasar. Kata kunci: metode fonik, membaca permulaan, Bahasa Indonesia, sekolah dasar / Early reading ability is a fundamental skill essential for first-grade elementary school students as the foundation for engaging in the learning process. However, many students still experience difficulties in recognizing letter sounds and reading simple words. This research aims to determine the effect of the phonics method on early reading ability in Indonesian language subjects for first-grade elementary school students in Mustika Jaya District. The study employed a True Experimental method with a Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. Research subjects consisted of an experimental group receiving phonics method instruction and a control group using conventional teaching methods. Data collection was conducted through oral early reading tests, while data analysis utilized statistical testing. The research findings indicate a significant effect of phonics method implementation on improving students' early reading ability. Therefore, the phonics method proves effective for Indonesian language learning to enhance first-grade elementary school students' early reading skills.
