Abstract

Gleen Dani Caesar Hutasoit, 2026. ―Anjing dan Penderitannya: Representasi Kekerasan Hewan dalam Karya Seni Lukis‖. Skripsi Penciptaan Karya Seni Rupa, Program Studi Pendidikan Seni Rupa, Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni, Universitas Negeri Jakarta. Skripsi penciptaan ini mengangkat tentang representasi kekerasan terhadap anjing sebagai sumber Ide Penciptaan Karya Seni Lukis. Penelitian ini bertujual untuk mengkaji bagaimana penderitaan anjing sebagai korban kekerasan direpresentasikan dalam karya seni lukis. Sebagai isu etis yang signifikan, kekerasan hewan kerap menjadi subjek bagi seniman dalam menyampaikan kritik sosial dan menggugah emosi. Dengan menggunakan metode penciptaan yaitu kualitatif dengan jenis riset Artistic Research (Penelitian Artistik), studi menganalisis visual pada karya mixed media dengan elemen-elemen visual seperti warna, komposisi, ekspresi figur anjing dan simbolisme yang digunakan. Hasil analisis menunjukan bahwa perupa merepresentasikan penderitaan melalui visualisasi luka fisik, ekspresi ketakutan, dan penggunaan simbol-simbol kontras antara kelemahan hewan dan dominasi manusia. Ditemukan bahwa karya-karya tersebut tidak hanya menggambarkan kekejaman secara eksplisit, tetapi juga membangun narasi penderitaan psikologis untuk membangkitkan empati audiens. Kesimpulan dari penciptaan ini menunjukan bahwa seni lukis menjadi medium yang efektif dalam menyuarakan isu kekerasan terhadap hewan, Melalui representasi visual, anjing tidak lagi diposisikan sebagai objek penderitaan menjadi subjek yang mampu memprovokasi kesadaran etis dan refleksi moral penikmatnya. ***** Gleen Dani Caesar Hutasoit, 2026. “Dogs and Their Suffering: Representations Animal Abuse in Painting”. Thesis for Creation of Fine Art Works. Fine Arts Education Study Program, Faculty of Languages and Arts, Jakarta State University. This creative thesis examines the representation of violence against dogs as a source of ideas for the creation of painting artworks. The study aims to analyze how the suffering of dogs as victims of violence is represented in painting. As a significant ethical issue, animal cruelty is often used by artists as a medium to convey social criticism and to evoke emotional responses. This study employs a qualitative creative method using an Artistic Research approach. The analysis focuses on mixed media artworks by examining visual elements such as color, composition, the expressive depiction of dog figures, and the symbolism employed. The results show that the artist represents suffering through the visualization of physical wounds, expressions of fear, and the use of contrasting symbols that emphasize the vulnerability of animals in relation to human dominance. It is found that these artworks not only depict cruelty explicitly but also construct narratives of psychological suffering that aim to evoke empathy from the audience. The conclusion of this creative process indicates that painting serves as an effective medium for voicing issues of animal cruelty. Through visual representation, dogs are no longer positioned merely as objects of suffering, but as subjects capable of provoking ethical awareness and moral reflection in viewers.
