Abstract
Penelitian berjudul “Analisis Semiotika Roland Barthes pada Hasil Karya Ecoprint Siswa dalam Pembelajaran Berbasis Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT)” ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis makna denotatif, konotatif, dan mitos sebagai bentuk ekspresi diri dalam hasil karya ecoprint siswa dengan teknik pounding melalui kajian semiotika Roland Barthes. Urgensi penelitian ini berangkat dari praktik pembelajaran seni rupa di sekolah yang masih cenderung menitikberatkan penilaian pada aspek keindahan visual dan keterampilan teknis, sehingga belum sepenuhnya memperhatikan makna simbolik, pengalaman personal, dan konteks budaya yang terkandung dalam karya siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif, dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi karya, wawancara, dan dokumentasi terhadap hasil karya ecoprint siswa. Analisis data dilakukan dengan membaca karya sebagai sistem tanda melalui tiga tingkat pemaknaan, yaitu denotatif, konotatif, dan mitos. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa secara denotatif karya ecoprint menampilkan bentuk, warna, dan tekstur alami daun, sementara secara konotatif karya merepresentasikan emosi, pengalaman, serta ekspresi diri siswa, yang pada tataran mitos mencerminkan nilai-nilai budaya sosial dan kesadaran ekologis terhadap hubungan manusia dengan alam. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa karya ecoprint tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai produk estetis, tetapi juga sebagai media komunikasi visual yang bermakna, serta relevan dengan prinsip pembelajaran seni rupa berbasis Culturally Responsive Teaching yang menempatkan pengalaman dan budaya siswa sebagai sumber utama pemaknaan karya. Kata kunci: Semiotika Roland Barthes, Ecoprint, Teknik Pounding, Ekspresi Diri, Culturally Responsive Teaching. ***** The research entitled "A Semiotic Analysis of Roland Barthes on Students' Ecoprint Work in Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT)-Based Learning" This study aims to analyze the denotative, connotative, and mythic meanings as forms of self- expression in students’ ecoprint artworks using the pounding technique through Roland Barthes’ semiotic framework. The urgency of this research arises from the practice of art education in schools that tends to emphasize visual aesthetics and technical skills, while overlooking the symbolic meanings, personal experiences, and cultural contexts embedded in students’ artworks. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, using observation, interviews, and documentation of students’ ecoprint artworks as data collection techniques. Data analysis is conducted by interpreting the artworks as a system of signs across three levels of meaning: denotation, connotation, and myth. The findings indicate that, at the denotative level, the ecoprint artworks display natural forms, colors, and textures of leaves, while at the connotative level, they represent students’ emotions, personal experiences, and self-expression. At the level of myth, the artworks reflect social and cultural values as well as ecological awareness regarding the relationship between humans and nature. These findings emphasize that ecoprint artworks function not only as aesthetic products but also as meaningful visual communication media, and are highly relevant to art education based on the principles of Culturally Responsive Teaching, which positions students’ cultural backgrounds and lived experiences as essential sources of meaning-making.
