Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui makna simbol yang terkandung dalam tari Gandes Kipas dengan menggunakan teori Semiotika menurut Ferdinand de Saussure. Mendeskripsikan bagaimana bentuk penyajian tari Gandes Kipas di sanggar ksetra kirana. Mendeskripsikan bagaimana makna simbol tari Gandes Kipas di sanggar ksetra kirana. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif untuk menggambarkan secara faktual dan akurat fakta, serta makna yang ada pada objek penelitian. Dengan pendekatan tersebut, peneliti berusaha memperoleh pemahaman yang mendalam tentang fenomena yang diteliti melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa tari Gandes Kipas memiliki makna simbol yang terdiri dari beragam unsur penyajian, meliputi gerak, musik, tata rias, tata busana, serta properti. Terdapat penanda (signifier) dan petanda (signified) juga didalamnya sebagaimana tari Gandes Kipas sebagai penanda sedangkan petanda ditandai dengan penari menarikan tarian ini menggunkan kipas, memiliki makna simbol perkembangan karakter anak remaja yang pemalu menjadi percaya diri. Dengan demikian, tari Gandes Kipas dapat dipahami sebagai karya tari yang mengandung makna simbol melalui hubungan antara penanda dan petanda menurut semiotika Ferdinand de Saussure. ***** This study aims to uncover the symbolic meanings embedded in the Gandes Kipas dance by applying Ferdinand de Saussure’s semiotic theory. It describes the performance format of the Gandes Kipas dance as presented by the Ksetra Kirana studio and explores the symbolic meanings associated with the dance within that context. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed to provide a factual and accurate account of the elements and meanings inherent in the subject of the study. Through this approach, the researcher sought to gain a deep understanding of the phenomenon via observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that the Gandes Kipas dance embodies symbolic meanings conveyed through various performance elements, including movement, music, makeup, costumes, and props. The analysis identifies the presence of signifiers and signifieds: the Gandes Kipas dance itself serves as the signifier, while the act of performing it with a fan and the associated transformation of the dancer from a shy adolescent into a confident individual represents the signified. Thus, the Gandes Kipas dance can be understood as a dance work that embodies symbolic meaning through the relationship between the signifier and the signified, in accordance with Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotics.
