Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis tindak tutur saran dalam program Dr. Phil dalam hal struktur linguistik, strategi, dan perangkat mitigasi. Untuk menganalisis hal tersebut, penelitian ini menggunakan teori klasifikasi struktur linguistik dan strategi tindak tutur saran oleh Abolfathiasl and Abdullah (2013) dan teori klasifikasi perangkat mitigasi oleh Martinez-Flor dan Juan (2010). Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif analitis. Data penelitian adalah ucapan saran Dr Phil yang diambil dari delapan episode program Dr. Phil. Dari analisis data, hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat 388 ucapan saran yang mana telah menerapkan semua tipe struktur linguistik, strategi, dan perangkat mitigasi tindak tutur saran seperti yang terdaftar dalam taksonomi, namun dengan frekuensi dan persentasi yang berbeda. Tipe struktur linguistik yang paling banyak dipakai adalah bentuk modalitas (41.5%), diikuti oleh bentuk perintah (16%), pengandaian (13%), petunjuk (11.3%), pertanyaan Ya/Tidak (7.7%), struktur kata terbelah semu (4.6%), ekstra posisi klausa to (2%), penggunaan „ayo‟ (1.8%), pertanyaan 5W+1H (1.6%), dan kata benda dan kerja performatif (0.5%). Tipe strategi yang paling banyak dipakai adalah strategi bentuk konvensional (63.4%), diikuti oleh strategi langsung (18.8%) dan strategi tidak langsung (17.8%). Dengan banyak menggunakan bentuk modalitas strategi konvensional dalam ucapan sarannya, Dr Phil memberikan solusi kepada masalah tamunya dengan cara merincikan hal-hal yang perlu dilakukan untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut. Dalam hal penggunaan perangkat mitigasi, dari 62 penggunaan atau meliputi 16% dari keseluruhan ucapan saran, bentuk (kurang) penegasan adalah tipe yang paling banyak dipakai (54.8%), diikuti oleh bentuk peringatan (30.7%) dan bentuk perendah (14.5%). Dengan banyak menggunakan bentuk (kurang) penegasan dalam ucapan sarannya, Dr Phil ingin mengesankan seolaholah saran yang dia berikan berdasarkan opini pribadi dan subjektif sehingga pendengar dapat memutuskan sendiri apakah akan mempercayainya atau tidak. ********** This study aims to analyze speech acts of suggestion used in Dr. Phil Show in terms of its linguistic structures, strategies, and mitigation devices. To analyze it, this study employs the improved taxonomy of linguistic structures and strategies of suggestion theory by Abolfathiasl and Abdullah (2013) and the taxonomy of mitigation devices of suggestion theory by Martinez Flor and Juan (2010). The method of this study is descriptive analytical study. Data are taken from Dr Phil‟s utterances which belong to speech acts of suggestion in the eight episodes of Dr Phil Show. From the analysis, the result revealed there are 388 suggestion utterances which had utilized all types of linguistic structures, strategies and mitigation devices of speech acts of suggestion as listed in the taxonomy, but differed in frequency and percentage. The mostly used linguistic structure is “Modals and Semi-modals” (41.5%), followed by imperatives (16%), conditionals (13%), hints (11.3%), Yes/No questions (7.7%), pseudo-cleft structures (4.6%), Extraposed to-clauses (2%), let‟s (1.8%), Wh-questions (1.6%), and the least, performatives: noun and verb of suggestion (0.5%). In terms of strategy, the mostly used strategy is conventionalized forms strategy (63.4%), followed by direct strategy (18.8%) and indirect strategy (17.8%). By using more modals of conventionalized forms strategy in his suggestions, Dr Phil tended to give solutions to the guests‟ problems by defining things they necessarily do in order to solve their problems. In terms of mitigation devices, out of 62 uses of mitigation devices or cover 16% from the total suggestion utterances, “(minus) Committer” is the mostly used type (54.8%), followed by forewarn (30.7%) and downtoner (14.5%). By using more (minus) committer in his suggestion utterances, Dr Phil tended to make an impression as if his suggestions are personal-opinion based and subjective so the hearers can decide whether to believe it or not.
