Abstract

FARAH DITA LARASATI. 2020. Penggambaran Kemampuan Pemecahan Masalah pada Anak dalam Novel Lima Sekawan: Pergi ke Sarang Penyelundup, karya Enid Blyton. Skripsi: Jakarta, Program Studi Sastra Inggris, Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni, Universitas Negeri Jakarta. Penelitian ini fokus menganalisis 10 bab dari 22 bab cerita dalam novel Lima Sekawan: Pergi ke Sarang Penyelundup, yang dipilih berdasarkan peristiwa yang menunjukkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah pada anak. Penelitan ini terbatas pada analisis proses ideasional meta-fungsi berdasarkan karakter anak dalam cerita, dengan pengaplikasian system transitivitas Halliday dalam penggambaran Kemampuan Pemecahan masalah pada Anak. Terdapat tiga proses dominan dalam novel yang menyampaikan aspek pemecahan masalah: material, verbal dan mental. Proses Mental dalam penelitian ini sebagian besar berfungsi untuk memicu respon dalam memcahkan masalah dalam bentuk tindakan dan perkataan, yang direpresentasikan oleh proses material dan verbal. Dari proses dominan tersebut, penelitian ini menemukan bahwa kemampuan pemecahan masalah pada karakter anak di dalam novel tidak hanya terlihat dari tindakan dan perkataan mereka, namun juga dari pemikiran dan perilaku mereka. Kemampuan mereka diantaranya adalah keampuan beradaptasi dengan situasi, mengenali atau menganalisis masalah, dan memutuskan tindakan untuk menyelesaikan masalah. Seain itu, mereka juga memiliki kemampuan bekerja sama dalam memecahkan masalah. Kata kunci: Kemampuan Pemecahan Masalah, Transitivitas, Lima Sekawan FARAH DITA LARASATI. 2020. This study focuses on analysing 10 chapters of 22 chapters in the novel Famous Five; Go to Smuggler’s Top, which are chosen based on the events that show children’s problem-solving skills. This study confines to the ideational metafunction process analysis of children characters with the application of Halliday’s transitivity system in the portrayal of Children’s Problem-Solving Skills. There are three dominant processes in the novel which carried the aspect of problem-solving skills: material, verbal, and mental. Mental process in the study mostly function to trigger the responses in solving the problem in the form of actions and utterance which are represented by the material and verbal processes. From the dominant processes, this study found that the children characters’ problem solving skills shown not only by their actions and utterances, but also by their thoughts and behaviour. Their skills are the ability to adapt with the situation, analyse or recognize the problem, and decide actions to take to solve the problem.
